Main Stupa Of Jaulian

The main stupa at Jaulian is badly damaged. It is surrounded by 21 votive stupas. Some experts think that a few of the votive stupas are actually tombs of revered monks. The statues at the stupas are mostly preserved. A number of these have been removed for exhibitions at museums. The original structure of the building of the Stupa along with the plaster is preserved at some places. A statue of buddha with a hole in the navel is an odd artifact. It is called the "healing buddha". Pilgrims would put their fings in the navel hole and pray for the ailment of the patients. The inscription preserved under the statue shows that it was gifted by a friar "Budhamitra Dharmanandin".[1] This inscription and a couple of others at this site show that the script was still used at Taxila in the fifth century CE. جھولیاں کا بڑا ستوپہ کافی حد تک تباہ ہو چکا ہے۔ اس بڑے ستوپہ کے ارد گرد چھوٹے چھوٹے ۲۱ ستوپے واقع ہیں۔ ان میں سے بعض کے متعلق ماہرین کا خیال ہے کہ وہ درحقیقت وہاں مدفون راہبوں کی قبروں پر بنائے گئے ہیں۔ ان ستوپوں میں موجود مجسمے محفوظ ہیں اور بعض میوزیم میں رکھنے کے لئے یہاں سے منتقل بھی کر دئیے گئے ہیں۔ بڑے ستوپہ کی عمارت کے بعض حصے اور پلستر تک محفوظ ہیں۔ یہاں موجود بدھ کا ایک مجسمہ بہت مشہور ہے جس کی ناف میں ایک سوراخ واقع ہے۔ اسے شفاء بخش بدھ کہا جاتا ہے اور اس کی ناف کے اس سوراخ میں انگلی رکھ کر شفاء کے لئے دعا منگی جاتی تھی۔ اس مجسمے کے نیچے موجود تحریر سے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ یہ مجسمہ بدھمترا دھرمنندن نامی ایک شخص نے ہبی کیا تھا[1]۔ اس تحریر اور ایسی ہی دوسری چند تحریرات سے وہاں رائج رسم الخط کا پتہ چلتا ہے۔
